Our Founder’s Story
From A High School Droup-Out Sleeping On His Grandma's Floor To Being Accepted By The Best University In The World.
My name’s Rohan, you may know me as The Cambridge Tutor, and my journey began with humble origins.
Mine started living on a cramped council estate, where a single mother raised a dreamer against impossible odds, to being accepted by the University of Cambridge
Not a journey many expect to hear about.
And that's exactly where my story begins.
Council Estate
Growing up on a council estate surrounded by concrete and limited expectations.
Most kids I knew weren't dreaming of university, let alone Cambridge.
How can you dream of something when no one around you has done it before?
My scholarship and bursary to the UK's oldest all boys school changed everything.
The statistics were clear: kids like me don't make it to Cambridge.
Less than 1% from my background ever reach those hallowed halls.
Teachers told me to "be realistic." Friends laughed at my ambition.
The teachers laughed when I said Cambridge was my goal. Told me to lower my expectations.
"People like us don't go there", ‘Why don’t you lower your goal’... I heard more times than I can count.
The doubt fueled me however.
But I refused to let my postcode define my potential.
But the journey wasn't easy.
I felt that people put their trust in me and it was on my shoulders to deliver.
I worked twice as hard to prove that my dreams would merely not be left as dreams.
Growing up in a single-parent household, resources were always tight.
"I can't afford to lose – quite literally," my mum would say.
Those words became my driving force.
Cambridge represented more than education – it was escape. Opportunity. Proof.
Countless late nights. Targeted study methods. Strategic preparation.
Then lockdown hit.
Grandma’s Floor
But I couldn’t let this be the end of my story.
So the following year, I reapplied (still on my Grandma’s floor).
But this time, things were different. I had a game plan. This time I had mentors. Mentors who went to Cambridge, who did my course, who were truly the best of the best and who were in my shoes.
I made sure to put in the work (alongside some amazing guidance) to ace each stage. The personal statement (tick). The Admissions Test (tick) . The interview (tick).
Waiting. Doubt. Winter pool (again).
But this time a College took a chance on me.
I did it.
High School Drop-Out
Due to family reasons, I had to drop out of High School.
Then our situation worsened, and my grandma's floor became my bed. My textbooks, my escape.
How was I ever meant to achieve my dream now?
It wasn't just about working harder – it was about working smarter.
That's the secret most students miss.
So I applied to Cambridge, and got invited for an interview.
This was it. I had my interview. My dream was about to come true.
Then decision day rolled around. ‘We regret to inform you…’. Heartbreaking.
I got put in the winter pool. So close yet still so far.
Heartbreaking. Maybe they were right. Maybe I wasn’t meant to make it this far.

That's why I do what I do. All glory to God and to those who believed in me.
I've helped hundreds of students transform their academic trajectories using the exact methods that got me here.
Your background doesn't determine your future. Your approach does.
Council Estate. High School Drop-Out. Grandma’s Floor. University of Cambridge.
If I can do it, so can you.
So let my team help you.
